No Sunburn on December 31, assures Sawant

PANAJI

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that Sunburn festival will not be held on December 31 as requested by the people and local MLA.

BJP MLA, Delilah Lobo, in whose constituency the Sunburn event is scheduled to be held, had urged the Chief Minister not to allow 'Sunburn festival' on December 31, stating that it will affect business of local restaurants, lead to traffic jams and will deter people from attending the New Year midnight mass.

The annual Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival, which is otherwise held for three days, this time, is scheduled to take place from December 28 to 31 in the coastal belt of Vagator.

Speaking to media persons, Sawant said “MLA (Lobo) has already said…if people don’t want, how can we have it on December 31”.

Sawant made the statement in presence of Lobo.

Earlier, Lobo had pointed out that every year, the music festival used to take place for three days -- up to December 30 -- but this year organisers have mentioned that it will take place also on December 31.

She had said that the move will affect local businesses like shacks, restaurants, eateries as the New Year's Eve is the business day for them.

The people of Anjuna, too had strongly opposed the proposed Sunburn EDM festival on December 31, citing worries about traffic congestion and negative impacts on local businesses as well as missing out on the midnight mass held on the eve of New Year.
