Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday said that the level of interest for GIDC plots at industrial estates via the auction route at high rates is an indicator that Goa's has ability to attract industrial investment.
"It is a misconception that only Tourism industry works in Goa. Besides tourism and pharma units, there are several companies operating in Goa which are doing well and thriving," Godinho said.
He was replying to the discussion in the House on the demands for grants for departments he holds including industry, transport and panchayats.
Godinho said the manufacturing sector in Goa has come of age citing the example of a company owned and run by a Goan which supplies parts and components to many aircraft companies and also space agencies across the globe.

Godinho said, he has managed to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology to streamline the functioning of the panchayat department.
Citing the government's decision to introduce the biometric attendance system for staff of panchayats all over Goa, Godinho said it will ensure punctuality of the staff and consequently delivery of service to the public.
Godinho said, the panchayat directorate now has a fairly functioning technical section with engineers and technical people of its own which has made issuing licences more efficient.
The minister also said that his department is working on rationalisation of staff in the department including panchayat sevaks and panchayat secretaries. Some of the issues related to staff are pending before the High Court and are expected to resolved, in the near future, Godinho said.
