Noted Goan healthcare, hospitality and real estate entrepreneur Victor Albuquerque breathed his last on Sunday afternoon.
He was 79 and is survived by his wife, noted lawyer Sylvia Albuquerque and two sons Varun and Vinay and their respective families.
A first-generation entrepreneur in the 1970s, Albuquerque quit a government job to foray into business by jointly founding the real estate company Alcon with Anil Counto, which later became a household name in the real estate sector.
The Alcon company also branched out into healthcare, hospitality and some other sectors before Albuquerque and Khaunte parted to continue their entrepreneurial journeys heading their respective Alcon-Victor Group and Alcon Anil Counto Group.
Albuquerque is also known to be a large-hearted philanthropist but kept it a guarded secret and has been an honorary Consul of Russia in Goa for several years.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat have condoled Albuquerque’s passing away.
“Saddened by the demise of eminent businessman, Shri Victor Albuquerque. His contribution to Goa’s hospitality industry has been tremendous. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” Sawant tweeted.
Kamat said: “Saddened by the passing away of my friend Victor Albuquerque. He was a philanthropist who always gave a helping hand to the needy. My condolences to the family. May his soul rest in peace.”
