Nuvem gram sabha seeks proper CZMP for villages along Sal

MARGAO
The Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) issue came up for discussions at the gram sabha of Nuvem village panchayat on Sunday, with the meeting adopting a resolution requesting the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) to prepare a proper CZMP for the villages along the river Sal.

Moving the resolution at the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Filipa Barretto, gram sabha member Jose Roque Andrade underlined the need for proper CZMPs for the village so that Nuvem village should not get affected in future due to wrong plans.

Andrade pointed out that the important River Sal in Salcete taluka, starts from Verna and passes through Nuvem and meets the sea at Betul.

“The seawater used to flow up to Khareband, but now with the rising seawater, the saline water has entered further upstream. If the CZMPs are not prepared in the villages from Navelim to Betul along river Sal, and the water flow is restricted in these villages it will affect the Nuvem village also. At present during the monsoon, Nuvem village gets flooded. The flooding situation will only aggravate if the CZMP plan is not put in proper perspective”, he added.

The Budget for Financial Year 2021-22 was approved by Gram Sabha. The Administrative report of the year ended 2020-21 was placed and approved Other issues that came up for discussions were migrant registration, big /mega project, Garbage collection, illegal filling of low lying fields and illegal constructions.
