One booked for molestation, assault

Mapusa Police have registered a case against a youth accused of assaulting, molesting and threatening a minor girl, who is a Class 12 student, following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother.

The incident reportedly occurred on December 2 around noon time in Mapusa. The accused, identified as Shourya Mayekar of Shetyewado-Duler, allegedly befriended the minor and later began following her.

According to the complaint, Mayekar verbally abused the girl with obscene language and threatened her with dire consequences.

Based on the mother’s complaint, the police have registered an offence under multiple sections of the Goa Children's Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The charges include Sections 8 and 12 of the POCSO Act for sexual harassment of a minor and Sections 352, 74, 78, 79, 118(1), and 351(3) of the BNS Act, addressing assault, abuse, and threats.

Mapusa Police have initiated an investigation into the case and are in the process of gathering further evidence.
