Countering claims made by Pernem MLA on large-scale land conversion, TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane clarified that only around 2.36 lakh sq metres of land have been converted in the taluka and not 60 lakh sq mtrs as alleged.
In a statement issued on ‘X’, Rane termed the MLA’s statement as shocking and factually incorrect.
Citing official Town and Country Planning (TCP) department records, he clarified that only 21 cases have been finally notified under Section 39A, covering a total area of 2,36,366 square metres. “Claims that 60 lakh sq mtrs of land have been converted are completely false. As per the official records of the TCP, only 21 cases have been finally notified under Section 39A, covering a total area of 2,36,366 sq mt, nothing more,” he said.
He further stated that provisional proposals cannot be treated as land conversions, as conversion follows a defined legal process involving scrutiny, objections and final notification.
Emphasising the responsibility of legislators to ensure accuracy, Rane said incorrect information had led to an erroneous public statement. He added that all development in Goa would continue strictly as per law and due process, and a detailed factual note would be submitted to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant separately.
