Even as South Goa Additional Collector Ramesh Gaonkar issued a memorandum to the police and the Deputy Collector to investigate the Colva bullfight on Wednesday morning, a bullfight was scheduled in Seraulim village in the jurisdiction of Colva police station in the evening.
While hundreds of dhirio lovers thronged Seraulim, where the bullfight was scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening, the bullfight, however, could not take place after Salcete Mamlatdar Gaurav Gaonkar, along with the village talathi and police, descended at the venue.
Questions, however, remained unanswered. How did the bullfight organisers come to know about the visit of the Salcete Mamlatdar to the venue, raising serious questions about whether the action got leaked, prompting the organisers to cancel the bullfight?
That’s not all. Questions were raised as to how police intelligence could not gather information on the planned bullfight when hundreds of bullfight lovers from Salcete thronged Seraulim on Wednesday evening.
The Salcete Mamlatdar informed that the bullfight did not take place at Seraulim as per the schedule.
He said that when his vehicle reached the site, hundreds of people were found dispersing from the venue.
The Colva police also said the bullfight did not take place at Seraulim. Police officials pointed out that people had assembled in the fields at Seraulim on Wednesday evening, but the bullfight did not take place.
“The authorities, including the police, prevented the banned bullfight from taking place at Seraulim,” remarked a police officer.
