Opposition slams govt over SC order

PANAJI

Welcoming the Supreme Court judgement upholding the High Court order on ward reservations, opposition parties gunned for Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and slammed the government’s attempt to violate the Constitution and derail democracy.

“Supreme court has refused to interfere with judgment of HC. Truth prevailed. This is victory of Democracy and Constitution,” said GPCC President Girish Chodankar while reacting to the judgment. 

He also demanded that the state government should also cancel elections in other Municipalities such as Valpoi and Pernem where he alleged that the reservations are not as per the constitution. 

Goa Forward Party which was one of the petitioners in the matter also demanded resignation of CM. 

Terming the Supreme Court verdict as a landmark judgment, Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai on Friday demanded that Sawant quit public life and demanded the immediate remove of State Election Commissioner Chokka Ram Garg from office.
