Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said other government corporations should emulate the Economic Development Corporation, which has been a self-sustained and profit-making government corporation.
Sawant was addressing a function after EDC submitted to the government Rs 12.8 crore as interest towards land acquisition deposit.
Sawant congratulated EDC Chairman Sadanand Shet Tanavade and his team for their commendable work and said other corporations should learn from the EDC and become self-sustained.
“The EDC is not only doing the work of a corporation but also implementing schemes such as Chief Minister Rojgar Yojna. This time, we have planned to hold programmes to generate self-employment in every village through the EDC,” said Sawant.
“Corporations like Kadamba Transport Corporation also can become self-sustaining bodies. However, we need a good MD and chairman.”
EDC Chairman Sadanand Tanavade said the profit-making corporation also offers a dividend of Rs 13-15 crore to the government.
"EDC is one of the corporations which does not take any money from the government but contributes to the government every year,” said Tanavade.
Tanavade said the EDC had made a profit of Rs 73 crore last year.
