Outsider recruitment row sparks debate on jobs for Goans

MARGAO
As the State witnessed a row of sorts over the job mela reportedly planned by a Ponda-based factory in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai on Thursday claimed that one can find more Konkani speaking people working at the Heathrow airport in London than at Mopa airport, Goa.

He said the recruitment of outsiders from the neighbouring states is taking place because the incumbent government is not strict in cracking a whip against factories recruiting outsiders in their establishments.

“I had taken to the social media in the morning after it was brought to my notice that the Ponda-based reputed factory MRF is planning a recruitment drive in Sindhudurg. The company management later denied of such a move. But, what is worrying is that Goa-based factories are increasingly looking for manpower from across the borders at the cost of the local unemployed youth,” he said.
