CANACONA
Stating that vaccination is the only answer to fight Covid and to combat the third wave, Director of Health Services Dr Jose D'Sa said over 6.5 lakh people in the State have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccination so far.
He said efforts are on to vaccinate the remaining population eligible to receive the dose.
“At present, 15,000-18,000 vaccinations are taking place everyday and to cover the remaining eligible population above 18 years, about 25,000 vaccinations should be administered per day,” said Dr D’Sa.
Dr D'Sa also informed that the government has enhanced medical facilities in the State to combat the third wave.
State Immunisation Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar said the situation is much better after the second Covid wave, but added that 100% vaccination, surveillance and appropriate behaviour can only help in reducing hospitalisation.
Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares said the 168 healthcare staff, including contract staff and security, had helped achieve 85% vaccinations among the 45+ age group in Canacona, after the vaccination commenced at the CHC from January 23.
“In Canacona, about 14,000 of the 16,954 people who are 45 years and above have been vaccinated and 4,000 of the 22,467 in the 18-44 age group have been vaccinated,” said Dr Tavares.
