The 550th Anniversary of the establishment of the Shri Gokarna Jeevottam Math (SGJM) in Partagal will be celebrated on a grand scale this year as hectic preparations have already been launched and invitations to high profile dignitaries are being extended in a ceremonious way.
This year's grand celebrations of 550th Anniversary will be held at Partagal math from November 27 to December 7.
The Math Committee has decided to renovate and extend the entire Math complex and its surroundings, with the creation of more than 600 residential rooms, a library, a Sanskrit school, a religious centre, beautification on all four sides, and to erect a large idol of Lord Shri Ram, with the blessings of the Shri Gokarna Jeevottam Mutt Swamiji Shrimad Vidyadhish Tirtha Swami Maharaj. Some of the works have already begun.
Devotees of the monasteries who have migrated to various other places, besides chief swamis of the various monasteries, will be present at this festival.
Recently, the Chairman of the Math Committee Shrinivas Dempo, with the blessings of the Partagal Mahadhish Shrimad Vidyadhish Tirtha Swami Maharaj, met the Swami of Chitrapur Mutt in Hubli, His Holiness Shrimad Sadyojat Shankarashram Swami and presented him with a letter of invitation for these celebrations.
Besides Dempo, the Vice-Chairman of the Mutt Committee R. R. Kamat, members Dinesh R. Nayak and Ramesh Nayak were present.
Earlier, Dempo had also met the incumbent of Palimaru Mutt in Udupi, His Holiness Shrimad Vidyadhish Tirtha Swami and his disciple Shrimad Vidyarajeshwar Tirtha Swami Maharaj and presented an invitation and a letter of appreciation for the celebration.
Bangalore committee members Anappa Kamath, Vitthal Shanbhag Burdekar, Jayaram Kamath and Jagadish Pai were present on this occasion.
