Patkar accuses govt of discontinuing 'Children's Day' event

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar on Monday accused the Pramod Sawant-led State government of discontinuing officially commemorating 'Children's Day' and dumped holding the official programme.

"It is shocking that the BJP government has stopped the official programme of the State government on the occasion of Children’s Day,” Patkar said.

Meanwhile top Congress leaders joined in commemorating the 133rd birth anniversary of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru at the party headquarters in the city.

Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said it was Nehru's vision which established institutions like All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhaba Atomic Research Center, National Institute of Virology and many others which eventually laid the foundation of a developed India.

Patkar, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Senior Vice President M K Shaikh, NSUI President Naushad Chaudari were among those who attended.

Patkar said Nehru had special love for Goa and a concern for the State's identity.

Sardinha said Nehru was a world leader who earned respect globally and that it is the duty of every Indian citizen to follow his ideology and vision. 

"Pandit Nehru was the architect of Modern India," he said.

SCERT to monitor 'learning outcomes' on weekly basis
