Phogat case: 2 drug peddlers granted bail

The two alleged drug peddlers who were arrested in connection of the BJP leader Sonali Phogat murder case were granted bail on Monday by an NDPS court.

The alleged accused, Dattaprasad Goankar and Ramdas Mandrekar who were released on bail were arrested under the NDPS Act.

They were presently in the judicial lockup at Colvale jail.

While Mandrekar had allegedly supplied the drugs to Gaonkar, the latter allegedly supplied the drugs to Phogat’s associates Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh.

Initially, the two were in the custody of police for five days but later a court had remanded both the accused to judicial custody.

Curlies owner, Edwin Nunes who was also arrested under the NDPS Act along with the duo was released on conditional bail earlier.

Phogat was brought dead to a hospital in Anjuna early August 23 after partying with her two associates at the Curlies shack cum restaurant the previous night.

Police had registered two cases in the Phogat murder case “ a murder case and a narcotics case.

Police had so far arrested five people in connection with the case including two of her associates “ Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh who are presently in the judicial lockup.

The case has recently been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation and the sleuths of the premier investigating agency have begun investigation in the case.

The CBI team has been in Goa since Friday last week.
