The Goa Police has filled in the remaining slot of personnel for the new Mopa Airport Police Station ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the upcoming Mopa international airport on Sunday, December 11.
Sixty-two personnel from the rank of constables to Police Sub Inspectors, currently posted at different police stations and units, are transferred and posted at the new police station. Of these, four are PSIs, six Assistant Sub Inspectors, 21 Head Constables, 31 PC and one Lady PC. With this, the police station has met the total sanctioned strength of 43 while the Traffic Cell for Mopa has also been allotted staff to handle the vehicular movement around the airport jurisdiction.
An order by Superintendent of Police (HQ) Shekhar Prabhudesai was issued on Wednesday based on the recommendation of the Police Establishment Board.
The department had just recently posted Police Inspectors Ninad Deulkar and Mahesh Kerkar at the Mopa PS and Mopa Traffic Cell respectively.
The State set up the PS in March considering that the airport will handle 85 lakh-one crore passengers per year once commissioned. While this will be only Phase-I, the airport once expanded will handle much more passengers on a daily basis.
PM Modi will inaugurate the upcoming international airport on December 11 while its commissioning is slated for the first week of January 2023. The initial estimated cost of the project was Rs 1,900 crore and it was revised to Rs 2,615 crore.
