The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Margao has on Thursday convicted an accused under Section 193 of the IPC, after he was charged for allegedly giving false evidence in the sensational Guru Poojary murder case that had rocked the city in the late 90’s.
When the mater came up before the JMFC, the court convicted accused Subhash Mandrekar under Section 193 of the IPC. Arguments on the point of sentence will take place next week.
Then South Goa Sessions Judge, Nelson Britto had lodged a complaint against three persons way back in 2003 alleging that the trio had made contradictory statements as witnesses in the case. While one of the accused was earlier convicted and the second one acquitted in the case, the Judicial Magistrate First Class has on Thursday convicted Subhash Mandrekar in the case for allegedly giving false evidence.
With today’s conviction of the accused, curtains have finally come down on the trial after a gap of 18 years.
Assistant Public Prosecutors, Stanford Fernandes and Gaonkar had appeared for the State.
