Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has stated that traffic proceeding from Panaji to Mapusa is likely to be diverted via the Chogm road, once construction begins on the Porvorim Elevated Corridor.
“Hence, the work to widen and hotmix the Chogm road as well as roads in Sangolda has become a necessity,” said Naik.
He was speaking at Sangolda after launching work to widen and hotmix roads in Sangolda in the presence of Sarpanch Neeta Kandolkar, Dy Sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar, panch members Nilkant Naik, Minolet Lopes, Wilma Alvares and the locals.
“Interior roads of Sangolda, especially opposite Silver Bells, touching the highway is narrow. There are fields on both sides of this road. Residents in the locality have demanded a footpath for pedestrians, but this is possible only if farmers donate some portion of their fields for the widening of the existing road at Sangolda,” said Naik, while appealing to farmers to donate a portion of their fields.
The Saligao MLA further said the Sangolda sarpanch had requested for a new Panchayat Ghar as the existing office space is very small.
“I will find out in which zone the panchayat office is located and after consulting with competing authorities, I will proceed in this regard,” said Naik.
Sangolda Sarpanch Neeta Kandolkar said the road near Saibaba temple and the road in front of Silver Bells are being hotmixed at a cost of around Rs 5.61 crore.
“Due to digging of the road to lay underground electric cables and sewerage pipeline, the condition of these roads had become pathetic and hence, there was an urgent need to hotmix roads prior to monsoon,” said Kandolkar.
Dy Sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar and Shamba Tuekar also spoke on the occasion.
