Porvorim police files chargesheet against 7 in Methar murder case

Porvorim police have filed a chargesheet against seven accused in the murder of activist Vilas Methar, who had been set ablaze near the Torda creek on October 13, 2020.

The 506-page chargesheet filed in the C court of JFMC Mapusa on Thursday has named Shailesh Shetty, Altaf Yargatti, Prashant Dabolkar, Iqbal Nanpuri, Pavan Badigar, Khayyad Shaikh and Santosh Pillay in the case.

Police said Methar was travelling from Salai toward Porvorim in his car when two persons intercepted him at the Torda creek, poured kerosene on him and set him ablaze.

Methar later succumbed to injuries at the GMC hospital in Bambolim on October 14, sparking off shock and outrage across the State.

Porvorim Police Inspector Ninad Deulkar said there are 71 witnesses in the murder case.

“We filed the chargesheet after a thorough investigation and within the stipulated time,” said Deulkar.
