OLD GOA
Famous tiatrist Prince Jacob accompanied by his troupe visited the Old Goa satyagraha on Saturday and extended their support to those participating while demanding the demolition of the structure which has come up within the protected zone of the St Cajetan church.Speaking on the occasion, Prince Jacob said he along with his troupe have extended support to the agitation against the structure which has come up in the protected zone of St Cajetan church, a UNESCO monument.
“Here, no construction can be allowed as it is a protected zone under UNESCO. However, illegalities have been conducted and such a huge structure has been allowed to come up. A common man would not have been allowed to construct even a small hut,” Prince Jacob stated.
“Our demand is that the government should immediately demolish the structure and protect this holy land of Goencho Saib,” he demanded.
“I have come to support as a Tiatrist along with my troupe. Today, the satyagraha completes 165 days and I think it could be a record of sorts that the satyagraha is going on for so many days,” Prince Jacob added.
The other members of the troupe included Maria Lourdes Fernandes (Neura), Ivola Elizabeth Couto (Nuvem), Melisha D’Souza (Velsao), Bonny Alvin (Ribandar), Avers Pereira (St Estevam), Michael Gracias (Majorda), Allwyn D’Costa (St Jose de Areal) and Fatima (Fatorda).
While participating in the satyagraha, the troupe sang a song ‘Uttat Goenkarano’ appealing to Goans to unite to save the heritage of Old Goa.
Earlier, Save Old Goa Action Committee Treasurer Hugo Gonsalves welcomed Prince Jacob and his troupe, while explaining the journey of the satyagraha to date.
