Project row simmers as Sherlekar questioned by police for 2nd day

Social activist Swapnesh Sherlekar was summoned for questioning by the Bicholim Police for the second day on Thursday, in connection with the ongoing controversy surrounding a project at Carapur-Sarvan.
The police action followed a complaint filed by panchayat member Tanvi Sawant, who alleged that people were being instigated against her over the project land issue. Acting on the complaint, Bicholim Police issued a notice to Sherlekar and called him to record his statement.
Sherlekar had reportedly been extending support to women and farmers in the Carapur-Sarvan area who have raised concerns regarding the land involved in the proposed project. As news of the police notice spread, several social activists and leaders from different parts of the State rushed to the police station to show solidarity with him.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shridevi B V and Police Inspector Vijay Rane recorded Sherlekar’s statement for several hours on Thursday. On Friday, Sherlekar once again appeared before the Bicholim Police Station, where his statement was recorded for nearly an hour. He later left the police station after completing the formalities.
Meanwhile, Mahesh Shah (President“Corporate Communication) of Abhinandan Ventures from the House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL) issued a statement mentioning that the ‘Lodha project’, as mentioned in The Goan report ‘Tension at Bicholim PS as activist summoned in Lodha project row’ on Friday, pertains to a project of HoABL and not ‘Lodha’.
“HoABL has been established in 2020 and is not, in any manner, associated with ‘Lodha’ or ‘Lodha Group’,” Shah stated.
