Chairman of the Mapusa Yard Sub-Committee Amey Natekar informed that a proposal has been put to the government to redevelop the Mapusa sub-yard.
Natekar also said that time-to-time repair works have been carried out in the sub-yard.
“In the redevelopment plan among other things we have proposed a facility of cold storage, ripening chamber and parking. We have also stressed on having two separate toilet blocks in the project,” Natekar said.
He said the access road to the sub-yard was dug up by the electricity department to carry out the underground cabling work which will be repaired soon.
He said that a private agency has been engaged to clear the garbage in the sub-yard.
He further informed that garbage may have accumulated in the last two days because of the Ganesh Chaturthi holidays.
The chairman informed that most of the issues affecting the sub-yard will be resolved in the redevelopment project.
“We are positive that work on the project will start soon. We are following up the matter with the government,” he said.
Natekar informed that the project is estimated to cost around Rs 40 crore and under a government scheme 40 percent of the cost will be borne by the Centre.
