Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho on Saturday said the government will take a call on the date for the Panchayat polls only after the State Election Commission completes the delimitation exercise.
He downplayed the protests made in certain quarters over the ward delimitation, pointing out that people will make a noise, irrespective whether the exercise is being undertaken by the government or by the State Election Commission.
“Everything is handed over to the State Election Commission, including delimitation of wards. We will take a call on the election date in consultation with the SEC. At present, the delimitation exercise is underway. This will be followed by the reservation of wards,” Mauvin said.
He reminded that the ongoing delimitation exercise is being conducted by the SEC and not by the State government. “These people used to say that the exercise is being manipulated by the government and the Minister. But, I want to tell these people that this exercise is now being carried out by the SEC,” Mauvin said.
