SANGUEM
A 48-year-old man from Barcem-Quepem was arrested by Sanguem police on charges of robbing senior citizens from Sanguem.
According to sources in the Sanguem police, the accused, Krishna Molu Velip, would wear a helmet and park his two-wheeler in front of the bank and target lonely senior citizens on the pretext of giving them lifts. He would allegedly rob them midway.
One such incident came to light on Thursday after a senior citizen, Kondo Rekdo from Dessai wada in Uguem, lodged complaint at the Sanguem police station that he had been robbed by some unknown person of Rs 2,000.
Acting on the complaint, the police team led by PSI Gokuldas Gaonkar and under the supervision of PI Pravin Gawas, laid a trap for the accused at prominent banks in Sanguem.
Based on a description by the complainant, the police arrested Velip under Sections 365 and 379 of Indian Penal Code.
He will be produced before a Sanguem Court on Friday for remand, sources added.
