Slamming the BJP government for its failure in initiating action against the Karnataka government for having dug a trench to divert the Mhadei water, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) demanded that the BJP should include in its manifesto that Mhadei will not be diverted.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Thursday, RGP Supremo Manoj Parab informed that PM Narendra Modi will come to Goa for LS poll campaign.

“That time, the PM should give guarantee to the Goans that the Mhadei waters will not be allowed to be diverted,” Parab demanded.

Parab then slammed the State government for its stoic silence on the issue.

“Videos by environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar clearly show that a trench has been dug to divert the Mhadei waters to Karnataka. But till date, the BJP government has not uttered a single word on the issue,” Parab said.

MLA Viresh Borkar then chided the government for not calling a meeting of the House Committee on the issue.

“It appears that the House Committee on Mhadei was formed for the sake of it. Otherwise, the moment the videos went viral, the government would have called an urgent meeting of the committee,” Borkar stated.

The MLA then demanded that an all-party delegation should go at the site to take stock of the situation.

“Further, the violations by Karnataka should be brought to the notice of the Supreme Court as that State has gone against its undertaking that status quo would be maintained till the matter is decided,” Borkar added.

The RGP leaders also condemned the Congress for its duplicity on the issue.

“When BJP was ruling in Karnataka, the Congress was superactive on the Mhadei issue but now the party has gone into silence mode as it is the Congress which is ruling in Karnataka,” Parab chided.

Parab then came down heavily on Save Mhadei Front and questioned why its leaders, mostly from the Congress, have not said a single word on the issue.

RGP treasurer Ajay Kholkar also spoke.
