The gram sabha of Rachol village panchayat on Sunday has rejected the government's draft jetty 2022 policy.
The gram sabha has resolved to forward the suggestions and objections adopted by the members to the government for necessary action.
At the meeting chaired by Sarpanch Joseph Vaz, the gram sabha members opposed the draft jetty policy on grounds the policy is not in the interest of the people of Goa.
Sarpanch Joseph told the media after the meeting that the panchayat will forward the resolution rejecting the draft jetty policy to the government.
The gram also deliberated and discussed on the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in the village. The issue generated lot of interest amongst the gram sabha members in the light of the Panchayat forfeiting the deposit of Rs 50,000 in the High Court over the failure to set up the MRF facility within the deadline set by the Court.
Sarpanch informed that the shed for MRF is almost ready and the shed will get a power connection. The Sarpanch further informed that the Panchayat has placed order for the baling machine.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha has resolved to effect a hike in the House tax after assessment. Defending the decision to increase the house tax, the Sarpanch informed the panchayat did not effect a hike in house tax over the years, saying the Panchayat is losing revenue on the house tax front.
He pointed out that houses paying house tax amounting to Rs 35 will now be charged an annual tax of Rs 100, adding “houses paying an annual tax of Rs 100 will have to pay double the amount”.
The Sarpanch has sought cooperation from the gram sabha members even as the panchayat constituted various committees at the meeting. The gram sabha also celebrated the birthday of deputy Sarpanch Mila Fernandes at the meeting.
