The Verla-Canca Gram Sabha on Sunday decided not to issue licences for any multi-dwelling projects as the village did not have basic infrastructure in place.
The villagers also sought action against illegal land filling and unauthorised constructions coming up in the paddy fields.
A resident of the village, Lincoln Braganza said since the roads in the village were narrow and water and electricity supply was irregular, the panchayat should stop issuing approvals and licenses for multi-dwelling projects.
Several locals present for the meeting supported the decision and a resolution was later adopted not to issue licences for multi-dwelling projects until proper infrastructure was in place.
Lincoln Braganza proposed the resolution while Donald Pereira seconded it.
The gram sabha members also raised fears against rampant construction taking place in the fields and on the hills without concern of the effect it will have on the ecology.
“The panchayat can take the farmers into confidence and start community farming in the village which will facilitate cultivation of our fields and thereby stop illegal filling that is going on at the moment,” Braganza said.
Since the fields belong to the Comunidade, Verla-Canca Sarpanch Dipali Bicholkar agreed to hold a joint inspection by the panchayat and the Comunidade to look into the issue on priority.
Braganza also suggested generation of verification and compliance reports of tenant verification in the interest of the local residents especially women and the girl child.
He informed the gram sabha that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had recently informed that migrants were involved in most of the crimes taking place in the State. He further said that the CM had also said that if the landlords failed to submit the tenant verification then they should be penalised.
The Sarpanch proposed of forming a committee of four members each in each of the nine wards with the panchayat member as the chairman of the committee.
She said the committee will take the responsibility to ensure that tenant verification is carried out in their particular ward.
The locals informed that some miscreants were dumping garbage along the Verla-Canca-Khorlim border next to the Sai Baba temple and disposing it off by setting it on fire.
