Goa continued to experience moderate to heavy rain, widespread showers and thunderstorms, even a month after the official withdrawal of the southwest monsoon on September 30.
As per the India Meteorological Department (Goa) on Friday, in the last 24 hours -- on Diwali -- Ponda recorded 87.4 mm of rainfall, Mormugao 72.8 mm, and Mapusa 67 mm while Moderate rainfall was recorded in Sanguem (59 mm), Valpoi (55.4 mm), Sanquelim (49.6 mm), Canacona (31.2 mm), Ela (Old Goa) with 23.4 mm, Panaji 22 mm and Margao 20.8 mm.
As the rain continued on November 1 on the day of Laxmi Puja, the IMD extended yellow weather alert till November 2 with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected in isolated areas of North and South Goa.
The IMD has also forecasted partly cloudy skies over the next 48 hours, with shallow to moderate fog likely in the morning and evening. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 32°C and 24°C, respectively.
Between October 1 and November 1, the State recorded 343.4 mm of rainfall, more than double the seasonal average of 166.3 mm and 106.5 per cent surplus.
