After the expose by The Goan of how gullible passengers are literally pulled by bus conductors at Aquem-Margao, RTO officials and officials of the Margao Traffic Cell, are on the job to put a mechanism in place at the St Sebastian bus halt to discipline the erring conductors.
After Assistant Transport Director, Nixon Soares called a meeting of the drivers and conductors of city buses plying on the Aquem-Margao route, RTO officials led by Deputy Director Jimmy along with Margao Traffic Cell in-charge PI Sanjay Dalvi descended at the bus stop to put a mechanism in place for the bus conductors.
While the RTO and Traffic Cell officials are expected to maintain the heat on the bus conductors and drivers by issuing challans, they are believed to have identified certain touts roped in by the conductors to canvass for business at the Aquem bus stop.
Sources said the touts are involved in physically pulling the passengers into the buses in lieu of some consideration given by the conductors. “We want to get rid of the agents canvassing for customers. We will also ensure that the buses make a halt to facilitate the passengers to alight and to board the buses,” sources informed.
