With the election code of conduct in force, the Salcete excise team has conducted as many as 76 raids in the last 10 days, with the excise team booking around 16 cases against the violators.
Salcete Excise inspector Shaba Naik told the media that excise teams have effected major seizure of liqour, both in Benaulim, wherein liqour worth around Rs 14 lakh were seized from unauthorized premises.
He said the excise department has constituted flying squads for Salcete taluka, which conduct day and night patrolling to keep a close vigil on those flouting excise rules and the model code of conduct.
He said the teams have raided premises, wherein liqour has been stocked illegally at unauthorized premises.
To a question, he said cases booked by the flying squads will be forwarded to the Excise Commissioner to decide on the matter.
On bills produced by the owners, Naik said that production of bills by the owners will be taken note of during the secondary investigations into the cases booked by the team.
The Excise inspection has appealed to the owners of liqour outlets to comply with the norms and abide by the model election code of conduct.
