Sangeet Sammelan at Bandekar auditorium in Canacona today

The 17th Sangeet Sammelan of Canacona Kalakar Sangh will be held at the Lata Mangeskar Bhavan’s Shri Sanjay Bandekar auditorium in Canacona on Sunday.

The 17th Sangeet Samelan will be held for the first time in an auditorium as previously it was held in air-open stage arrangements.

The Canacona Kalakar Sangh is organising this music festival in association with the Department of Arts and Culture, in the memory of Pandit Govindrao Agni, a son of Canacona and Gantapaswini Anjanibai Lolyekar, a daughter of Canacona.

Art and Culture Govind Gawde will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the festival, while Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar will preside over the programme.

Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanawade will be the special guest, Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Sara Shambha Desai will be the guest of honour.

Councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, Hemant Naik Gaonkar, Zilla Panchayat members Shanu Velip (Khola), Shobana Velip (Poinguinim) will also be present.

Pune-based Pt Pramod Gaikwad and Shishya will perform a classical solo (shehnai) and Dr Uday Kulkarni will accompany him on the tabla.

Other performances will include classical singing by Pallavi Patil from Goa, who will be accompanied by Rohidas Parab (Tabla), Vasant Gaonkar (Harmonium) and Wasim Khan (Sarangi), while Mayank Bedekar (Goa) and Omkar Dalvi (Pune) will perform and Tabla and Pakhwaj Jugalbandi.

On the occasion, a number of personalities will be felicitated and they include Ajit Painginkar, founder member of the Kalakar Sangh, artists Shashikant Mhalshi, Gajanan Pagi as well as teachers Vijay Chari, Pratima Prabhudesai and Chandralekha Mestri who have received various awards from the government. A souvenir will also be released on this occasion, stated the Convention President Ramakant Komarpant at a news conference in the presence of Vice President Narayan Desai and other members.
