PANAJI

The Community Health Centre (CHC) at Sanquelim which caters to vast geographical areas of Bicholim and Sattari talukas has achieved a significant milestone of performing 1,000 cataract surgeries.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane provided the information via a post on social media saying the surgeries have made a huge difference to the lives of mostly elderly residents by restoring their eyesight.

"CHC Sankhali has performed over 1,000 cataract surgeries so far thereby making eye care accessible to residents," Rane said in a post on X.

He said, these cataract surgeries have made a difference to the lives of these elderly residents by restoring their vision.

Meanwhile, Rane said the Directorate of Health Services through its network of primary health centres will be intensifying efforts to identify "hidden TB population" and ensure timely treatment to them.

The campaign will focus on reaching out to vulnerable groups and individuals exhibiting symptoms of TB including low-grade fever, night sweats, chronic cough and loss of appetite, he said.

"Screenings, including chest X-rays are being conducted through 'TB Nikshay Shivirs' where counselling is provided to address stigma and ensure monthly follow-ups," Rane said.

Rane said the mission to eliminate TB in Goa by the end of 2025 will continue although data shows that the State has been logging a static 2,000 plus cases of TB every year for the last three years.
