MARGAO
A day after former two-time MP Churchill Alemao hinted at the possibility of contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, incumbent South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Wednesday said he had predicted long ago that the Varca strongman would throw his hat in the election ring with the backing of BJP to split the Congress vote.
He, however, hastened to add that Churchill will not find acceptability in the constituency. “I had predicted that Churchill would contest the South Goa seat with the support of BJP to split the Congress vote. This time, however, Churchill will realise that he will have no place anywhere in Goa. And the only place left for Churchill to contest is from the moon,” he said.
He added: “Since no one has reached the moon, Churchill can go to the moon and contest the elections. The BJP is behind Churchill to contest the Lok Sabha polls to split the Congress votes. But Churchill, as well as the BJP, will not succeed in their agenda.”
Meanwhile, the South Goa MP made a fervent plea to the government as well as the Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavlikar not to insist on the Panchayat bodies pay money for the floodlights installed in the Panchayat jurisdiction by different agencies for illumination. “Many places have been illuminated by different agencies for the purpose of keeping anti-socials at bay. If the government insists on the panchayats to pay the money, a situation may arise wherein the illumination may turn defunct, paving the way for the return of the anti-social activities,” he warned.
