The four-and-a-half-year-old girl, who was abducted and brutally attacked by a young labourer in Morlem-Sattari, received a blood transfusion at Goa Medical College (GMC) as medical reports cited she suffered substantial blood loss owing to the assault.
Police sources revealed to The Goan that the survivor has sustained external head injuries after accused Ramsevak Thakur alias Golu -- currently in police custody -- allegedly hit a stone on her head. He has also confessed that he abducted the girl from her rental room while her parents were away, and took her to a hill at Morlem to execute the crime. He presumed she had died after which he fled.
During a police search that followed a missing person's complaint, the cops found her breathing and rushed her to the Sanquelim Health Centre from where she was shifted to the GMC.
“The victim underwent a blood transfusion as she lost substantial blood after the attack. She is in the ICU, stable and under strict medical observation,” the source disclosed.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Peter Borges is scheduled to meet the victim and her family on Thursday.
“I am heartbroken by the attempt to murder of the child by a labourer, an act that deeply concerns me and demands urgent attention. I am monitoring the child's condition and will personally visit to assess it and meet with the family to discuss how we can support them during this difficult time. I am dedicated to working with law enforcement and relevant agencies to ensure swift justice,” he said speaking to The Goan.
The accused, aged 23 years from Madhya Pradesh, was arrested by the Valpoi police within 12 hours of the offence. While the investigation team will contact their counterparts in MP to ascertain his antecedents, it is learnt that Thakur arrived in Goa two months ago in search of a job. Thakur and the victim’s parents - hailing from neighbouring Karnataka - are co-workers at a laterite stone quarry in the area.
