On Monday, when class I to XII students are expected to enter classrooms for the first time since March 2020, they may have a fun day away from their books as the Directorate of Education has asked schools to celebrate ‘Matribhasha Diwas’, a nationwide activity in campuses.
A circular sent to schools by DoE has asked them to organize elocution contests, debates besides singing, painting, essay writing competitions among other events.
The DoE has also asked school managements to file compliance reports and particularly send photographs and videos digitally. Celebration of the International Mother Language day in schools is predicted to help children grow with the values of their nation and understanding the essentials of Indian culture.
The day is also aimed at promoting the use of one’s mother tongue and achieving some language-related objectives.
Over the last nearly two years, classrooms in schools have been shut and academic work has largely been conducted online after the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March 2020.
Experts and academicians have been warning for nearly a year that the abnormality could lead to a catastrophe with a generational knowledge gap. Mental health experts too cautioned authorities of serious complications among the young if their life routines aren’t reversed back to normalcy.
