Sexual abuse victim deposes; trainer's police remand extended

PANAJI

The Women's Police have identified more victims of sexual abuse, a case that saw the arrest of a self-defense instructor from Bicholim last week. The first victim, whose disclosure to a local NGO led to the registration of the First Information Report over a week ago, maintained that his trainer sexually abused him on several occasions since August 2021.

Police officials said that his deposition under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) was recorded before the Magistrate on Monday and that other victims will also be produced before the Court for evidence.

The accused is booked under section 377 (unnatural offenses) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant sections of the Goa Children’s Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, for allegedly sexually abusing the 15-year-old under the pretext of medical check-ups over one year.

On Monday, the Children’s Court extended his police custody by another four days.  The investigation team also suspects the involvement of more accused in the case.
