CANACONA
A large number of devotees thronged to the Shri Mallikarjun temples in Canacona to celebrate Shigmo-Zatrosthav.
On Monday, hundreds of devotees including women and children took part in the annual Shigmo-Zatrosthav procession and triennial Shishea-Ranni rituals at the Shri Mallikarjun Temple in Gaondongrim.
The menfolk playing the Dhol-Tanse with four 'Tarangs' took part in the Shigmo procession while the womenfolk observed the Divjam (carrying it overhead in a procession).
The traditional Shishea-Ranni is observed every three years at each of the three temples in Canacona, with the first year being celebrated at Gaondongrim, followed by Khotigao and finally at the Shrishthal temple.
During the Shishea-Ranni ritual, the sacred rice was cooked on fire using as hearth the three heads of the “Ghode” at Shri Mallikarjun temple, Gaondongrim.
Incidentally, the three temples have mahajans and devotees arriving from the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
On Wednesday, the annual Shigmo-Zatrosthav was observed at the Shrishthal Temple with great devotion.
The Shishea first observes the relevance with the six 'Tarangs', before taking a procession. Thousands of Mahajans and devotees then line up to take the 'Kovul'.
While the rituals end the late afternoon, people line up to take the ‘Kovul’ even into the late night, informed sources.
Among the thousands of devotees attending the annual Shigmo-Zatrosthav at Shrishthal included BJP State President Sadanand D Tanawade and BJP General Secretary Satish Dhond.
The annual Shigmo-Zatrosthav at Shrishthal has a fair with shops/stalls selling various toys, sweets, apparels, clothes and other items.
