Sleuths bust IPL betting racket at Taleigao

In continuation with the crackdown on online IPL betting racket in the State, the Crime Branch of Goa Police raided a flat in Chamunda Residency, Taleigao and found four persons involved in accepting IPL bets online.

According to the primary investigation, the gang had so far taken bets close to Rs 50 lakhs in the current season. During this entire period they were operating from Goa.

The accused persons include Ranjot Singh Chabra, Sunil Motwani, Kapil Tolan and Vinay Gangwani. All hail from Raipur, Chattisgarh.

They were allegedly accepting bets from their clients in Chattisgarh over the phone. Several mobile phones have been seized. A laptop is also seized on which bets were entered in a software along with other gambling-related articles all worth around Rs two lakh.

Calangute Police has registered three such cases -- including the ones at Candolim and Baga -- during the ongoing IPL season which began on September 19 and is set to conclude on November 10.
