Some p'yats have not renewed licences of roadside establishments

Some of the panchayats are believed to have not renewed the trade licences issued to the roadside business and commercial establishments in the new financial year post-High Court on removal of encroachments.

Sources, however, informed that the roadside commercial establishments not only stand tall, but they do business as usual along the roadsides in the property owned by the Public Works department.

The Goan understands that the some of the Panchayats have complied with the procedure by issuing notices to the roadside business establishments. Questions, however, remain unanswered as to which agencies will crack a whip against the illegal commercial establishments operating on the roadsides. For, these commercial establishments automatically assume the illegal status in the event the licensing authority revokes the trade licence or fails to renew the licence.

A village sarpanch told The Goan that it is now for the PWD to take further action since the structures are all coming in the PWD area.
