South Goa MP hopes govt does not delay implementation of Act

MARGAO

South Goa Member of Parliament Captain Viriato Fernandes has congratulated the Schedule Tribes community of Goa and expressed his sincere thanks for the support received from the community towards passing of The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024.

The South Goa MP recalled that he had demanded on the floor of the Parliament on August 2, 2024 that ST reservation Bill for Goa be introduced in Lok Sabha. “Yielding under this sudden pressure,  Minister for Law & Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal introduced the Bill on August 5, 2024. So Congress Party was not only the first to demand the introduction of the bill but also extended its all out support during the discussion along with INDIA alliance partners on December 17, 2024”, he said.

He added: “Though it was surprising as to why the BJP government kept delaying the passing of the bill in December 2024 in winter session and subsequently during the Budget session from 31 Jan 2025 to 04 April 2025, the Bill, however,  has been finally passed today on 5th August 2025 in Lok Sabha. Hope the government does not delay implementation of the Act”.
