Officials of the SGPDA and representative of the fish traders were involved in a spat during the inspection of the wholesale fish market as per High court directions on Monday.
As the issue of thermocol waste took the centre stage, with SGPDA member Secretary Sheikh Ali pointing accusing fingers at the fish traders, a representative of the wholesale fish market Association rubbished the charge, saying its members are not involved in bringing fish in thermocol waste inside.
A visibly agitated PDA member secretary was heard directing the PDA contactor to challan the fish trader with a hefty fine of Rs 1000 and a ban on entry of the traders into the market.
The PDA contactor also joined issue with the representative of the wholesale fish Association, demanding to substantiate the allegation made by Association president M Ibrahim that extortion is taking place at the wholesale fish market.
In turn, the wholesale fish market Association replied back saying videos have gone viral showing how dozens of migrant vendors are making brisk business inside the wholesale fish market when retail fish sale stands banned.
