PANAJI
The Goa State Election Commission has notified the proposal of draft delimitation of the wards of the Taleigao panchayat, elections of which are due later this year.
The draft delimitation proposal has been prepared by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) has been kept open for public scrutiny from Thursday and feedback has been sought.
It will be on display at the office of the Taleigao panchayat Talathi up to March 9.
Public can submit their complaints related to the delimitation of wards and also their suggestions seeking modifications or report errors to the GSEC, the latter said in its notice.
Elections to the Taleigao panchayat are held independently of those for the other over 180 panchayats in the State ever since it was carved out of the Panaji civic body back in 2004-05.
Prior to that, Taleigao was part of the Panaji Municipal Council when the panchayat was merged with the then Panjim Municipal Council in the 1990s despite a violent agitation against it.
Restoring it back to a panchayat was one of the promises on which current Revenue Minister Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate rode to victory in his first MLA election in 2002.
Two years later in 2004, the then Manohar Parrikar government set up the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) after carving out the Taleigao panchayat.
