PANAJI
The All Goa Taxi Owners' Association on Tuesday began an indefinite strike at Azad Maidan in Panaji with their long-pending demand of scrapping the app-based taxi service GoaMiles. The agitating taxi owners have given a two-day ultimatum to the government to act on their demand and warned that from April 8 the taxi services will be paralyzed.
The leader of the taxi owners' association Bappa Korgaonkar said the government is just giving assurance and have not fulfilled our demand.
"From April 8 the whole of Goa will be paralysed," said Korgaonkar. Till we don't get a written assurance we will not take back the protest, he added.
He said that they oppose any form of cab aggregator, even if a Goan comes with such a scheme.
North Goa Taxi Owners Association (NGTOA) executive member Yogesh Govekar said the government is selfishly trying to finish our business which has been built over a long time. We will not go for bail, but go for a jail bharo andolan, he added.
Yogesh appealed to tourism stakeholders to join the agitation and also appealed to Rent a car, Rent a bike, Tempo travellers, rickshaw owners to join the agitation.
