Unknown thieves decamped with valuables and cash worth Rs 17 lakh from an apartment located in a housing society in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa in broad daylight on Thursday.
The incident occurred when the complainant Satish Bhupali was at his grocery shop and his wife joined him to go to their daughter's school.
Thieves broke into the flat by breaking open the main door and looted gold ornaments valued around Rs 15-16 lakh and cash of Rs 1 lakh from the cupboard. The complainant had brought the gold from the bank locker for Diwali and intended to return it after some days.
Another flat in Mapusa was also burgled in similar fashion and ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were stolen.
