After an almost empty beach on the last day of 2020, domestic tourists as well as local visitors came in droves as they kept the date with the iconic Colva beach to usher in the New Year celebrations.
If one came across hardly any visitors on the world famous beach on New Year Eve, the beach played host to thousands of visitors on Friday evening, bringing back smiles on the local stakeholders, including the water sports operators.
Sources informed that though Colva beach wore a deserted look on Thursday evening, visitors began descending on the beach later in the night. Local stakeholders, however, said the visitors, mostly came with stock of liqour and beverages from wholesale outlets and left the beach without giving any business for the local restaurants and the shacks.
That visitors kept the date with Colva beach on New Year day may ring in good news for the stakeholders, with local businessmen hoping against hope that the visitors will give a shot for their business.
Police sources informed that the usual crowds at the Colva beach on New Year eve had gone missing on Thursday evening. “There were not many people on the beach around midnight. No doubt, there were visitors around, but they were not in big number”, sources in the Colva police informed. Colva police station in-charge, PI Melson Colaco informed that the sea water suddenly rose around midnight, with the water touching near the beach shacks late in the night till the wee hours.
