Chimbel panchayat authorities and the Chimbel Primary Health Centre (PHC) officials conducted a joint inspection of the housing society in Chimbel, on Friday, to ascertain the source of the sewage which overflows on the road near Our Lady of Livra Febres Chapel.
To trace the exact source, the Chimbel panchayat employed labourers to open the drain through which the sewage was overflowing.
Upon opening the drain, it was ascertained that sewage was overflowing from two buildings of the housing society after which it was decided to issue notices to stop the menace.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted that sewage was overflowing on the road at two spots in Chimbel, one from the housing society near Our Lady of Livra Febres Chapel and the other at the public toilet at Indira Nagar.
Speaking to The Goan after the inspection, Chimbel PHC Medical Officer Dr Jude D’Souza said a notice has been sent to the chairperson of the housing society.
“At today’s inspection, it was found that sewage of another building is also released into the drain and another notice will be issued to stop the same. The chairperson of the housing society will be directed to immediately ensure the nuisance is stopped and permanent measures are adopted so that sewage is not released in the drain in the future,” said Dr D’Souza.
The health workers also sprayed anti-larval solution in the drain to avoid breeding of mosquitoes.
Chimbel Panchayat Secretary Rajendra Gawas, Sanitary Inspector Namdev Naik and others were present at the inspection.
