The All India Trinamool Congress on Saturday announced that it is nominating former Goa Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro to a Rajya Sabha berth.
Meanwhile, the party has also named its eloquent parliamentarian Mahua Moitra as the party’s Goa affairs in-charge on Saturday.
“We are extremely pleased to nominate @luizinhofaleiro to the Upper House of the Parliament. We are confident that his efforts towards serving the nation shall be appreciated widely by our people!” the TMC tweeted from its official Twitter handle on Saturday.
That Faleiro has been offered a seat in Parliament’s Upper House was widely speculated at the time in late September when he took the surprise step of resigning as an MLA and member of the Congress, with which he has been since the 1980s to join the TMC.
Faleiro thanked the TMC leadership and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the Rajya Sabha nomination.

In another tweet, Faleiro said: “This opportunity to fight to protect Goa at the national stage only strengthens my resolve to actively ensure we form the government in Goa. Goa is my first and last priority. I will continue striving to represent my people in the upcoming assembly elections.”
Meanwhile, soon after her appointment, Moitra in a tweet said she will do her best to shoulder the responsibility.
“Looking forward to doing my very best. Thank you for the opportunity @MamataOfficial” Moitra said in the tweet.
