Amid reiterating concerns on the assaults involving shack workers, the Tourism Department have now sought to increase police presence on the beaches including regular checks of shacks.
"We are taking immediate steps to enhance security measures across all beaches in Goa. This includes increasing the presence of law enforcement personnel and conducting regular inspections of beach shacks to ensure compliance with regulations," an official said, speaking to The Goan.
Local youth Amar Bandekar lost his life in an altercation with a shack worker at Arambol beach on Jan 26 evening. The reason being that he objected to the obstruction caused by the chairs belonging to the shack.
While department has stated that any disputes should be amicably settled, the issue has reignited the issue of alleged illegal deck beds, tables and chairs on the beaches.
"We urge all stakeholders, including shack operators, tourists, and local residents, to maintain decorum and resolve disputes amicably. It is essential that any disagreements be handled with patience and respect to prevent such tragedies in the future," the official said.
The department stated it is "deeply saddened by the tragic incident," adding that the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors are of paramount importance.
"The Goa Tourism Department is committed to fostering a safe and harmonious environment for everyone. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies and the local community to ensure that Goa remains a peaceful and welcoming destination," the official said.
Meanwhile, the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG) has suggested that all app-based taxis to operate in the State.
