Touts back in action: Tourists conned, cheated in Calangute

Local police arrests two, another two absconding

On Saturday, the day when Calangute Police booked 34 touts and paraded them before the media, a tourist was conned and forced to cough up cash for a massage service that never materialised.

When the tourist and his friend refused to pay up Rs 32,000 demanded from them, they were confined and assaulted in a closed room.

Based on the complaint lodged by the tourist from Haryana, Calangute Police arrested two accused while two others are absconding.

The incident happened at the Jupiter club in Calangute.

According to the complainant, Arun Malik, a person by name of Ravi Chawan approached him and his friend and took them to the Jupiter club on the pretext of providing them with a massage service.

Chawan induced them to pay Rs 6000 including Rs 2000 as security deposit through google pay in the bank account of his accomplice Shubham Jillewar.

The complainant further informed that the promised massage service was never delivered and one of the four accused Vinit Rathore forced them to cough up Rs 32,000 as bill for consumption of alcohol along with two females that were present in the club.

“When we refused to pay Rs 32,000 the accused confined us in one closed room and abused us with filthy language and also threatened us to kill,” Malik said in his complaint.

Calangute Police booked an offence under sections 323, 506(i), 342, 420, 392, r/w 511 of the IPC for cheating and attempt to commit robbery against the four accused.

Police then swung into action and arrested two of the accused “ Vinit Rathore and Shubham Jillewar “ who have been remanded to four days police custody.

The other two accused Ravi Chawan and Jeevan are absconding.
