Traffic Dept seeks details on formation of CTC in schools from Edu Dept

PANAJI

The Traffic Department has sought details of the Children Transport Committee (CTC) constituted by the schools from the Education Department, citing its importance to review and monitor the safety and transportation of students.
An official communiqué by Deputy Superintendent of Police (North) Sidhant Shirodkar to the Director (Education) Shailesh Zingde has emphasised the constitution of the committee.
“…It is to apprise that as per Sub-Rule(2) of Rule 5 of the Goa Motor Vehicles (Regulations for School Buses) Rules, 2016 'every School shall constitute a CTC to look into the matters pertaining to the safe transportation of school children, transportation fees, identification of bus stops, etc.'” reads an extract of the letter.
The Committee, as per the rule, should meet at least once in three months prior to the commencement of each semester. Therefore, Shirodkar has requested the Director to furnish information/details of the CTC constituted by all the schools of Tiswadi, Bardez, Pernem, Bicholim and Sattari talukas on priority for further necessary action.
The government had constituted the Committee after the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights sought action against owners/drivers of vehicles illegally operating as school transport and urged the concerned departments (Education, Transport and Traffic) to report the status and implementation of Children Safety Committee and Children Transport Committee in each district.
