A tragic road accident at Curtorim snuffed out the lives of two youngsters, both close friends, aged 20 years, from Sanvordem on Friday noon. Incidentally, the driver of the ill-fated truck involved in the accident is the uncle of one of the deceased.
The accident occurred at around 3.30 pm when the duo was headed towards Sanvordem on the Chandor-Nessai road while the truck was proceeding in the opposite direction.
Maina Curtorim police station in-charge, PI Arun Desai informed that the ill-fated truck is believed to have first dashed against another truck before it rammed against the motorcycle, killing the rider Tanvesh Naik and pillion rider Srikar Naik. The truck was proceeding from Chandor to Nessai, while the duo were heading to Chandor side on their motorcycle.
PI Arun informed that the Maina Curtorim police has detained the 54-year-old truck driver Sunderdas Naik, a resident of Sanvordem, who is the uncle of deceased rider Tanvesh.
“The ill-fated truck had a slight dash against another oncoming truck. The motorcycle was following the oncoming truck before the ill-fated truck rammed against the two-wheeler,” PI Arun said.
He said the duo were declared dead at the Hospicio South Goa District Hospital. The bodies of the duo have been preserved at the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended at Sanvordem on Friday after news of the tragic accident spread in the village. Local media persons pointed out that the duo had been close friends and used to celebrate their birthdays together as they were born on the same date and year.
